Prime Day board game deals are fast-approaching, so we've roused our bargain-hunters from hibernation and are putting them through a Rocky-style training montage to get in shape for 2023's sales-geddon. Along with rounding up all the best offers during the event itself, they've listed their top tips below to make sure you're able to capitalize on the most tempting discounts.

OK, so it may feel as if Amazon Prime Day is just about Kindles, TVs, or laptops. But in actual fact, tabletop games aren't left out in the cold. You can take advantage of reductions on everything from beloved classics to the best board games, so it's worth keeping an eye out when the sale begins. Last year's Prime Day board game deals knocked Gloomhaven prequel Jaws of the Lion down to its lowest ever price, for example.

To make sure you know what you're looking out for, we've listed some advice on how to make the most of 2023's Prime Day board game deals below. GamesRadar+ has been covering Prime Day gaming deals for quite some time, so these suggestions should help you save as much as possible along the way.

Prime Day board game deals - FAQ

best Amazon Prime Day deals

When will Prime Day board game deals 2023 begin?

The date for 2023's Prime Day board game deals hasn't been announced just yet, but based on previous trends, we have a suspicion it'll take place around July 12 - 13. That's certainly what happened last year.

However, this isn't to say you'll only get discounts on those specific days. We've seen reductions begin to pop up in the week leading up to the sale as well, so keep any eye out from early July if you want some advance board game deals.

Wondering when we'll find out more about the date for this year's Prime Day board game deals? With any luck, info should drop within the next two weeks or so - otherwise, Amazon's cutting it a little fine in terms of timing.

As soon as we hear anything, we'll let you know.

Do I need a Prime membership for Prime Day board game deals?

Unfortunately, you will need to be Prime member to take advantage of the best Prime Day board game deals. As you may be able to tell from its name, Prime Day is all about giving members the cheapest prices. That puts many offers behind a paywall.

The competition (like Best Buy and Walmart) get in on the action with price cuts of their own

However, that doesn't mean you can't take advantage of reductions here and there. Some savings do go live for all Amazon users during the event, and they're not half bad. Plus, it's worth noting that the competition (like Best Buy and Walmart) get in on the action with price cuts of their own. Keep an eye on them if you're reluctant to sign up for Prime.

Should you wait until Black Friday instead?

Even though the November sale is arguably one of the year's best when it comes to tabletop, the Amazon Prime Day board game deals aren't an opportunity to ignore. While certain games do drop to all-time low prices during Black Friday, the same is true of Amazon's event - just to a lesser extent. As such, we'd recommend keeping an eye on it and consulting price-matching software such as CamelCamelCamel to check whether you're actually getting a good deal or not (it'll tell you about previous discounts and how the current price stacks up in comparison to them).

What to expect from Prime Day board game deals 2023

Much like Prime Day video game sales, tabletop doesn't always make the biggest wave during this sales event; many of the offers won't stray far from discounts we get all year round. However, that isn't to say you can't save a very respectable chunk of money if you keep your eyes peeled. A saving is still a saving, after all.

As an example, you're practically guaranteed a win with classic board games such as Catan, Pandemic, and Ticket to Ride. Even though they enjoy a reduction on the regular, we usually find their Prime Day prices to be better than usual.

Similarly, good parent-present candidates like Wingspan or Azul tend to be more affordable during sales like Prime Day as well. Because these can clock in at $50+ normally, it's a good time to invest. For instance, Azul hits its lowest ever price in 2022, so we're hoping it'll repeat that trick this year.

It's a great opportunity to pick up cheaper party titles

All the same, we'd recommend keeping the closest eye on premium hobby games such as Terraforming Mars, Disney Villainous, Gloomhaven (not to mention its smaller prequel, Jaws of the Lion), or Scythe. These also have their prices cut during sales events, and while most record lows are saved for Black Friday, you can still get phenomenal savings if you're lucky. Jaws of the Lion tumbled to an all-time low price last year, and so did OG Gloomhaven in the UK. RPG rival Descent: Legends of the Dark also hit a tremendously reduced price across the pond in Britain, so here's hoping we get a repeat this time around.

It's a great opportunity to pick up cheaper party titles by studios like Big Potato Games, too. Examples such as Blockbuster: The Game can come crashing down to a mere handful of dollars during events like this, reducing them to impulse-purchase territory.

What about new games like Frosthaven, then? Well, seeing as that big-box adventure has only just hit shelves, we wouldn't anticipate a saving on it just yet (that'll probably wait until Black Friday). However, other newcomers like Catan: Dawn of Humankind and The Lord of the Rings: The Card Game will almost certainly see a reduction of some kind because they've been out for a little while now.

Disney Villainous | $39.99 $24.99 at Amazon

Blockbuster | $21.99 $8.53 at Amazon
Save $12 - It's unusual to see such a must-have party game drop so drastically in price, making this an easy recommendation during last year's Prime Day board game deals. In fact, this featured after the sale had officially finished.

Image

Mysterium | $54.99 $27.50 at Amazon
Save $27 - This spooky co-op game might have one of the best elevator pitches out there: one of the players is a ghost trying to solve their own murder. While we'd seen Mysterium for less before, that was still one of its lower prices in last year's Prime Day board games roundup.

Image

Azul | $39.99 $27.99 at Amazon
Save $12 - This superb and surprisingly relaxing game had a major price cut in the Prime Day board games roundup, and although it'd been cheaper in the past, that was still an aggressively good price on one of the best puzzlers out there.

Image

Spirit Island | $89.99 $65.98 at Amazon
Save $23 - This unusual strategy game takes an entirely novel approach in casting you as nature spirits attempting to stop colonists from ruining your home, and it comes highly recommended as a result. It was just one dollar off its lowest ever price as well.

Save $31 - As an eternally popular game that always hits top 10 lists, we highly recommended grabbing Terraforming Mars while it was less expensive in last year's sale.

Image

Catan | $48.99 $30.14 at Amazon
Save $18 - So many fans got into board games because of Catan, and that makes this family-friendly classic a must-have on your shelf. That price actually went down in cost twice over the event, demonstrating why it's important to keep an eye out during the sale.

Image

Spelljammer: Adventures in Space | $69.99 $41.99 at Amazon
Save $28 - This science fantasy spin on D&D wasn't even out yet during last year's sale, but it had already enjoyed a hefty discount during the Prime Day board game deals. Keep an eye out for D&D products this time around as a result.

Image

Monopoly: Animal Crossing New Horizons Edition | $27.99 $17.49 at Amazon
Save $10 - Oof, that was an aggressively low price on this Animal Crossing-flavored Monopoly. If there was a gamer in the house that adored Nintendo's cheerful animal world, this made for an excellent gift last year.

Image

Quests of Yore: Barley's Edition | $59.99 $40.70 at Amazon
Save $20 - If you want a breezier tabletop RPG or one that'll suit your kids, this is a perfect choice. Besides being more accessible, it's a lot of quirky fun. That wasn't far off its lowest ever price, either.

Image

Splendor | $39.99 $25.16 at Amazon
Save $14 - You could get a very tidy saving on this beloved strategy game as part of last year's Prime Day board game deals, and even though it'd been cheaper in the past, this was its lowest price since December 2021.

Image

Catan Starfarers | $99 $85.16 at Amazon
Save $14 - This sci-fi spin on Catan came tumbling down in cost ahead of the Prime Day board game deals, and even though that wasn't its lowest price, it was the biggest discount we'd seen since June 2021. Reductions are unusual for Starfarers, so it was a bargain.

Image

Exploding Kittens | $19.99 $13.99 at Amazon
Save $6 - There's a reason this is such a beloved party game; it's easy to get into, engaging, and utterly hilarious. Highly recommended, especially when it fell to that price last year.

Image

Bunny Kingdom | $49.99 $28.49 at Amazon
Save $23 - Who knew that something so cute could also be so strategic? The excellent Bunny Kingdom was slashed in price for the 2022 Prime Day board game deals, so we definitely suggested taking a look if you wanted something new for games night.

Last year's best Prime Day board game deals - UK

Image

Gloomhaven | £139.99 £76.98 at Amazon
Save £63 - Although it's expensive, this is a genuinely fantastic fantasy RPG that's well worth the money. It'd only ever been a few quid cheaper than this and discounts below £80 are very rare, so it was a real standout.

Image

7 Wonders Architects | £39.99 $28.90 at Amazon
Save £11 - The original 7 Wonders is excellent but complicated, so seeing this streamlined, bite-size version drop down in price was an early highlight of the Prime Day board game deals. It was actually one of our top games of 2022.

Image

Azul | £29.82 £22.99 at Amazon
Save £6 - This colourful game is totally mesmerising, and it'd never been cheaper than this. The previous lowest-ever price was £26.99 back in March 2019, so you were getting a blinder of a deal here.

Image

Pandemic | £44.99 £22.95 at Amazon
Save £21 - OK, so the theme is a bit on the nose considering the last few years. But Pandemic existed long before COVID and is one of the best games out there, so seeing it drop to just five pence off its lowest ever price was pretty stellar.

Image

Codenames | £19.99 £11.99 at Amazon
Save £8 - The original Codenames is often seen as one of the best modern board games, so being able to grab it for a heavily-reduced 40% less was magic. That was its lowest ever price, too.

Image

Everdell | £47.77 £34.49 at Amazon
Save £13 - With a gorgeous, painterly art-style, Everdell immediately catches the eye... and its fantastic gameplay will keep your attention long after. It'd never been this cheap before, either.

Image

Descent: Legends of the Dark | £129.95 £90.99 at Amazon
Save £39 - This was our favorite game of 2021 thanks to a clever blend of video game and tabletop elements, so seeing it drop by 30% is awesome. In fact, it'd never been this cheap; it was a solid £16 or so below the previous low price, making this one of last year's better Prime Day board game deals.

Image

Disney Villainous | £39.99 £29.99 at Amazon
Save £10 - This is comfortably one of our favorite board games, and it's so rare to see it on offer. With that in mind, this was an excellent offer in last year's Prime Day board game deals.

Image

Wingspan | £42.54 £33.99 at Amazon
Save £8 - You might roll your eyes at this game at the sight of its bird-focused mechanics and assume it's rather dull, but that'd be a mistake. This is a superb but oh-so-relaxing family game everyone needs on their shelf because it's so darn moreish.

Image

Splendor | £23.98 £16.99 at Amazon
Save £7 - This was just a couple of quid off Splendor's lowest ever price in the UK, and it'd not been in this price range since the end of 2021. It was a bargain, in other words.

Naturally, Prime Day board game deals aren't the only things worth looking into. The sales event also has a lot of other tech at massively reduced prices, including Prime Day laptop deals and Prime Day TV deals. If you want to keep your focus on tabletop though, don't miss the top board games for adults.
